Does Finast (finasteride) pill has permanent side affect? Will it work against frontal hair loss?

My brother(32 years old) has genetic frontal hair loss problem. He takes Finast (finasteride) 1mg dose daily with doctor’s prescription. But he is scared about it’s side affects? please give your advice and opinion about this. If you know any other treatments for this problem please let me know.
